about

This new EP continues with the same brutal prog Spacebag sound, while adding a wide variety of organs, synthesizers, pianos, harsh noise and even more whammy bar than before! Spacebag gives a nod to the jazz fusion masters of the 70’s, metal and thrash pioneers of the 80’s and hardcore hessians of the 90’s. Party Prog Nights is perfectly summed up by the wisdom of Yngwie Malmsteen: “How can less be more? That’s impossible. More is more!”

In 2016 Warren A. Pease (Wah Wah Exit Wound, Accused) took up the drum throne and a new version of Spacebag was born. Filling Gormley’s unique rhythmic shoes was no easy task but Pease was able to honor the old material while incorporating his own impressive playing style. After a short tour Spacebag began working on new material and playing regional shows. During much of this period, Pease was undergoing treatment for multiple myeloma, and sadly passed away in 2019. A charismatic and disciplined professional, his traditional grip blast beat was truly a sight to behold. Incredibly, he rehearsed and played a number of shows during his intensive treatments. In the last months of his life he was also able to record three new songs, documenting some of his best drumming.

In 2021, Webb and Laplante completed guitars and keyboards for the three songs with Pease on drums. They also recorded a fourth new song with MVP Gormley re-entering the fold, contributing drums and bass. With these new recordings, the EP Party Prog Nights was born.

Who is “Party Prog Nights” for?

Party Prog Nights is for anyone with enough imagination to envision what a metal band would sound like if they recorded on the international Space Station! A “progressive rock” fan who is looking for an ally in denim and leather, without even a hint of elitism or snobbery. Those whose fists are raised by the power of rock and brandished in solidarity, as a witness to the most epic of riffs! Anybody who wants a good time while simultaneously having their faces melted off! Here’s your motherfucking invitation to the aural fiesta that is Spacebag’s Party Prog Nights! “Stand up and be counted for what you are about to receive!”

Party Prog Nights is set to be released digitally on 9/15/21 It will also be released on12” vinyl. Pre-orders will are available through Unknown Controller Records. The Party Prog Nights EP will be on side A and the “Greatest Hits” of the previous two releases will be on side B.
